Senior Services
The mission of the Senior Services Program is to provide services that promote independence and quality of life for people age 60 and residing in Pittsylvania County. There are five categories of services provided:
- Transportation - individuals age 60 and over are eligible for transportation services, if they lack the ability or means to transport themselves to congregate meals sites in Pittsylvania County. Medical transport for dialysis patients can be provided. Other medical transportation needs are provided by appointment.
- Checking Services - this service involves calling or visiting older persons at their residence to check on them to make sure they are well and safe.
- Socialization/Recreation - this category of service provides an opportunity for older persons to participate in constructive social experience and leisure time activities.
- Volunteer Programs - this category of service provides an opportunity for the community to do volunteer work in aging programs and for the elderly to do volunteer work in the community.
- Health and Fitness Program - involves activities designed to prevent disease and promote the health of older persons. Activities are: chair exercise, nutritional counseling, health screening and health education and information.
