SENIOR NUTRITION
PROGRAM
Senior Nutrition consists of two programs:
Congregate Nutrition and Homebound Delivery.
Congregate Nutrition allows for seniors to attend sites in
Danville, Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County and
Pittsylvania County. These meal sites provide not only a hot
mid-day meal, but also opportunities for socialization and
recreation that may alleviate isolation and loneliness. Weekly
programs offered at the sites include health and wellness, exercise
and nutrition.
Homebound Nutrition provides meals to eligible clients or
other eligible participants at the clients' place of residence.
Meals are delivered to the home five days a week all year.
Both of these programs are free, however,
donations are accepted and strongly encouraged.
Persons over 60 must meet certain eligibility factors which are
determined by the Southern
Area Agency on Aging. Major factors to consider in
determining eligibility are:
v
Over 60 years of age or the spouse of an eligible person
v
Income level
v
Living arrangements
v
Physical health
v
